Dr. Salim-Ali Memorial Nature Club (SAMNC), a national level NGO was founded in memory of Late Dr. Salim Ali, a renowned ornithologist of India with the primary objectives of conservation of environment, forest and wild life in India. Foundation of the organization was initiated by Mr. Brijnath Sharma, an ex-forest officer who was also a renowned conservationist and ornithologist. Initially, we initiated several programs for conservation of forest and wildlife in the Vindhya Mountain ranges of India and idea of founding the club was emerged as a part of such efforts. SAMNC is registered under the Indian Society Registration Act 1860.

Since our organization is named after great ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali, it is often thought to be associated with birds, but in reality the purview of our activities covers wide spectrum of issues associated with environment and wildlife conservation such as eco-development, natural resource conservation, environmental awareness among the rural/urbanpeople.
